So, for those of you who know me I usually buy off the rack, not because I love it but because I am a college student and to quote Tim Gunn, have learned to make it work. But, there is an affordable way to ensure that you have some good pieces that help you to stand out without breaking the bank. That my friends is vintage pieces. For some of you the first thought in your minds is probably ew it’s old, out of style, and probably has someone else’s germs on it. This is just not the whole truth. Vintage pieces usually have withstood the test of time so you know it will last longer than some of the things on the shelves today and it has been washed so you do not have to worry about germs. Most importantly, because it is not in every store, you won’t be caught wearing the same thing as some of your friends. My favorite vintage shops are in SoHo in New York but since I can’t travel there every day here are a few online and local alternatives. Unique Vintage is based out of California but has been featured in numerous media outlets so don’t worry, to my knowledge it’s legit. Their selection ranges across the board. Some of my favorite pieces now include plus-sized Collins Color-Block Top, sequined sleeve dress, and the famous PANAM orion bag. If you have a chance I suggest checking out this site, it’s definitely one of my favorites. As for the New York shops, I am lucky enough to have some favorites with an online component as well. RESURRECTION, a vintage store in New York and California, is on the pricier side because they carry all designer pieces such as Chanel, Dior and so on. Therefore, you know there would be a price tag to match. Oddly enough I’ve had my eye on their Chanel Faux Fur Muff for years but, given my college girl budget, that purchase is not going to happen anytime soon. Thus, the reason why I am presenting this store to you is just to show the higher end spectrum of vintage. When it comes to designer vintage you get a little piece of your favorite designer and sometimes at a lower price than what is in retail stores today. It may still burn a whole in your pocket but not as much as the newer version. Obviously though, there are plenty of other places out there. Where is your favorite place to shop for vintage?
