This weekend, I was home sick. But, the one thing that made me excited to get better was/is Date Night!
Whether you’ve been dating for 2 weeks, 2 months or 2 years, that extra time you spend together is always something special. You get to dress up, have that ever so slight feeling of butterflies and, if you’re like me, can’t stop smiling for the 10 minutes before you see him/her.
Here are a few easy tips to help you look great for your next date night.
Remember, Personality is Key…
Whether it’s a date, a night out with friends or a fun brunch at your favorite spot, what makes the outfit will always be the person in it. It’s the personality you add to a look that will make it go from something you picked out from the bottom of your closet, to an awesome outfit. So, have some fun with your closet!
Make it the outfit represent you with your favorite prints, shoes and/or styles.
Going on a date somewhere fancy or just to the pub down the street? Remember, you’re the one they asked out and fell for in the first place. So, why not look yourself?
My favorite way to show this off is by wearing a pair of classic, nickel-free studs and my silver, metallic Ted Baker oxfords. These shoes are bold; I can wear them with whatever I like and I’m always comfortable in them. That being said….
Pick a Statement Color that You Love.
Whether it’s your favorite hue or their’s, add a bolder color to your look that will make you feel comfortable and confident.
Black and white tend to be my signature hues. But, when it’s time to go out, I’ll slip into my second favorite, a cool blue, or the every-popular red. Even a red lip will suffice because it breaks things up from what you would wear every day.
You’re going out somewhere that you don’t visit all the time. Enjoy it and play around with a pop of color. There’s always room for a splash of something special, just….
Remember Where You’re Going.
I love my silver oxfords, but if we decide to go out for a nice dinner, those flats are getting replaced by a cute pair of heels and a twirl-worthy dress.
No matter how cute it looks on, you wouldn’t feel comfortable wearing a mini skirt to go bowling or heels to hike Mount Nittany. Dress to impress for the occasion. (Also, if your date night involves a concert, swap out heels for boots or sneakers. Being sticky from all the clumsy people who spilled beer throughout the night, is not cute.)
Bonus Tip from My Boyfriend: Show just enough skin to get them interested, nothing crazy, and it will drive them wild.
There’s no need to look like you just came out of a Victoria’s Secret catalogue. Wearing a one-shoulder top, a slightly above-the-knee skirt tor your favorite romper should do the trick. It’s all about balance and showing off your natural beauty. That and the drive of what they can’t see is always more alluring than what they can.
Still Not Sure What to Wear?
Go for a romper with a bold leather jacket for those cooler days, a dress with an unexpected detail for those walks downtown (like the only nearly sheer lace dress we discussed last week), or slip on your favorite jeans and a sleeveless/cold shoulder top. All of those options are easy to find in your closet and my personal go-tos. Even a solid top and a well-cut, embroidered skirt will work!
Just keep the purses on the smaller side. You should pack everything you need but keep in mind that you never know where you’ll end up. You don’t want your work bag at a packed lounge.
Don’t want to show off any skin? Then complement your form with a cute two-piece set that covers, yet flatters your shape.
Here are a pieces I would wear – in all lengths and sizes, for under $100:
Can you tell ruffles are quickly becoming my thing?
Overall, just wear what you like and feel confident in. Then, you’ll be perfect. He/she picked you for YOU, remember? Not just your amazing style.
Have a great week everyone! Come back on Thursday for more style tips, news and fashion must-haves for less!
