Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of summer! That means rooftop bar happy hours, naps on the sand, and plenty of outdoor weddings are in your immediate future. Your wardrobe is about to be put to the test.
To make things a little easier, I’ve scoured your favorite sites to find three on-trend styles that can make your summer wardrobe and help you stay on budget. Don’t worry, I’ll tell you how to style them too!
1. One-Shoulder Tops
I know what you’re thinking; this is a TOTAL flashback. But, it comes in modern patterns and cuts that you can easily dress up or down. Whether you’re getting ready for date night or drinks with the girls, this is going to be your go-to top.
Pair it with your favorite jeans, sunnies and flats on a breezy day. Or, slip on sandals and your favorite shorts for a day of running around. Here are my favorites that will actually fall within your budget.
Just make sure to switch to an off-the-shoulder look if you’re planning to be in the sun. Otherwise, you may get a few funny tan lines.
2. The “Sheer” Lace Dress
Like most of you, I’m hitting that age where almost everyone around me seems to be getting married. When that happens, there’s only three things to do: buy a few gifts, plan a few hotel stays and find a dress you can wear more than once.
We saw the sheer lace dresses from Self Portrait sell out everywhere last season. Now, multiple designers have come back with their own versions. What does that mean for you? No need to drop $500 to get that gorgeous look!
Here are a few lace dresses I love. (As always, I’ve included a few less sheer options for those of you that are a little modest, like me.)
I know you’re going to see some of the same people at these weddings. So, make it look different each time by mixing in a printed scarf/wrap, playing up the accessories and definitely changing out your shoes, each time. Using the right accessories can give you an entirely different look with minimal added effort.
3. The Cascading Ruffle Skirt
Don’t feel like dressing up but sick of wearing shorts? This is what you’ll love to turn to. A cascading ruffle skirt can add a hint of feminine glamour or edge to any look as well as help you look great when you have just a few minutes to get ready.
Simply add your favorite tank, delicate jewelry and slides to complete the look. Or, go all out with a blouse, sneakers and leather jacket. No matter what you choose, this fun change on the ruffle will mix things up.
I’m sure you’re going to find plenty of other pieces to add to your wardrobe before season’s end. But, you can mix and match these with every one.
Have a wonderful rest of your long weekend everyone! Thank you to those who served and are on active duty. Without you, I wouldn’t have the life I love today.
