It’s time to start thinking of your work wardrobe in a different way. Sure, you may have a go-to suit that you wore on job interviews or a bunch of separates you mix and match throughout the week. But, there’s nothing that says you can’t add in something special every once and a while. Again and again, we’ve seen a shift in fashion that says its ok to borrow from the boys and make menswear our own. Suits don’t just come in the boxy cuts or the standard black and navy anymore. It’s time to mix things up with a modern look.
Here are three ways to take on the Fall 2016 menswear trend. (Feel free to add in those loafers from my last post too!)
Take on the form-fitting suit with an unexpected detail.
Like I said, suits aren’t one-size-fits-all, anymore. Bring your personal style into the workplace with a cape-inspired blazer, a fun metallic hue or even an all-over print. After all, what makes you good at your job is your individual perception and tastes. If you got it and can (/are allowed to) flaunt it – why not?
Remix Button-Downs for a chic-meets-HR-approved look.
Yes! I love this trend! We’ve talked about it for a while now but nothing says it’s time to put a modern spin on the button-down like an influx of printed suits and metallic pieces in your work wardrobe. (Everything else is getting refreshed, so why not?) Pair your classic, solid trousers with a fun button-down. Yes, I mean the ones with the cascading ruffles, tie-front details and over-the-top accents. If the rest of your outfit is subdued, adding this bold element can instantly make the look.
Finish things off with a duster.
No, I don’t mean cleaning.
Nothing says tailored like a long, double-breasted trench coat or a refined vest. Both give you plenty of length to mix-and-match as you will as well a provide a potential dose of dimension to an otherwise plain outfit. (You know this first-hand from my get the look post!) Plus, when the weather is this unpredictable, it’s always nice to have a second layer. I say, layer it on!
Here are a few midi to floor-length pieces too love for less.

Not sure if this trend is for you? Go to the store, try on something new and see what happens. If you don’t like it you don’t have to buy it. If you do, you get a new perspective and something to save for.
