Looks like someone’s following in Givenchy‘s footsteps. According to WWD, Tommy Hilfiger is getting ready to turn Pier 16 at South Street Seaport in New York City into a Tommy-themed carnival on September 9!
But, this NYFW event is a far cry from the carnivals you attended in grade school. There will be a 40-foot ferris wheel alongside typical fairground food and rides of course, just with a New York twist. Think hamburgers and hotdogs plus doughnuts, lobster rolls, and pop-up shops. Get ready to visit two just for the Tommy X Gigi collection plus a record shop, nail polish & temporary tattoo shop, and a vintage Hilfiger shop!
A special mix of 2,000 industry professionals and consumers get to attend. Here’s how you can be one of them. Certain unreleased “print media partners” – think magazines – will be giving them away for free by email. So, watch your inbox! Members of the “Hilfiger Club” loyalty program will also get their chance at free tix as will visitors to NYC Go. More on that soon.
Can’t attend? Don’t worry. There’s more than enough fun to go around. This see-now-buy-now event, a trend in the industry, will be live streamed at 7 p.m. on Tommy.com. To make the deal even sweeter, “Tommy Pier” will be open an extra day, from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. on September 10! The runways shows will be rebroadcast on jumbo LED screens throughout the venue.
This is Tommy Hilfiger’s way of getting more millennials interested in the brand and it definitely looks like it’s going to work. Just think of the Snapchat and photo ops. “Do it for the insta” was made for this event.
More details to come as they are released. Until then, get a preview of the Tommy X Gigi collection, here.
