Remember how everyone told you “Don’t play with your food,” growing up? Well, now it’s time to wear it! Pineapples, watermelons and citrus fruits have been popping up again and again in jewelry designs, purses and funky clothing prints over the past year. Not only did you see it in my kitsch post and on your 90s bathing suits, but the collection between Eva Mendes and NY & Company has a slew of fruit-patterned looks . Dolce & Gabbana even has a few pieces covered in lemons!
Now, I think it’s time to show you how to style this refreshing trend. Here are a few ideas to help you look cute and fashionable with funky fruit details.
Make Your Own Lemonade
For those who want a more subtle nod to this food-friendly fashion trend, I recommend dressing in one color that resembles your fruit of choice and complementing it with a fun-shaped accessory. A light yellow dress and lemon-shaped clutch should do the trick.

Party Like a Pineapple
Ready for something a little more wild? It’s time to embrace the all-over print. Choose a pineapple-printed dress or pants and accentuate it with either a coordinating solid colored top or a striped scarf tied around your neck. Whichever way you choose, this style should work both for the office and a night out with the girls. Here’s an example with a dress by Lily Pulitzer.

Break Out the Watermelon
Yes, your favorite summer treat is also a fashion statement. While I’m partial to seedless yellow watermelon (It exists!) this melon color is too cute to pass up. In fact, it’s perfect for an all-over beach look. If you want to go all-out, I found a two-piece dress that can carry the print into your post-swim look.
