“Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking…..” – Meryl Streep in “The Devil Wears Prada”
I know, flower prints in spring are far from original. But the way brands are reinventing this tried and true design are worth mentioning! Everyone from Calvin Klein to Karl Lagerfeld to Dolce & Gabbana have been putting images of bold florals on top handle bags. Don’t even get me started on the chic, two-piece dresses that fill ASOS and all the major department stores. When mixed properly with the rest of your closet, you get a few jaw-dropping looks that can have you turning heads all-season long. Here’s how to do it:
Use Accessories to Your Advantage
There are multiple trends at play for this one. We talked last week about how Pink is the new color for spring. Well, an all- solid-colored outfit will suit as your perfect accent for a bold floral accessory. It makes the print stand out that much more in comparison. Scroll down to see one easy way to pull it off: I chose all light gray pieces, including ballet flats (Yes, those are back too!), a chic romper, drop earrings and a velvet clocker. Welcome back to the 90s, with a modern twist.
Slip On with a Refined Design
When it comes to the workplace (or a chic lunch with the girls), refined florals can be the perfect choice. Choose a pop-over dress with an overlay bodice. (You know, the kind of dress where it looks like it’s two pieces but actually gets put on as one. I own this one by Ivanka Trump.) Choose either a full A-line skirt or a pencil skirt style for an elevated look.
Remember, it doesn’t have to be formal.
The importance of every trend is that it fits in with your style! So, keep in mind that making florals work, doesn’t mean you have to be dressed up all the time. I love the idea of mixing flower-printed pants with a solid top and sneakers. It gives off an elevated look that is both comfortable and stylish. Plus, the extra coverage is perfect for cool spring nights. What do you think?
