Eek! You slept through your alarm and have mere minutes to prep before it’s time to grab the train. You can’t go in to work looking like a slob; this isn’t an 8 a.m. lecture. So what do you do? I have a few suggestions.
Here are five quick tips to help you get ready when you have no time and nothing to wear.
1. Check the weather.
Before you pick up anything, check the weather app on your phone. You don’t want to throw on a white top just to get caught in the rain. Or worse, grab something sleeveless when it’s actually 40 degrees out. You’ll end up wasting more time coming back inside to change. Do yourself the favor and take two seconds to see what it’s like outside.
2. Go for the basics.
This is not the time to be overly creative. What’s your standard work outfit made of? You can never go wrong with a refined, printed top, some delicate jewelry and solid-colored dress pants. Combine these with fun flats or block heels and you’ll look chic for almost any office.
One added benefit: because these are wardrobe staples, it should be easy to find options in your closet that need minimal ironing. This leads me to my next point.
3. Avoid items that need a ton of ironing.
Forget the pleats and ruffled tops. Unless you plan on taking a super steamy shower to get the wrinkles out, picking an intricate piece will take too much ironing. While worth it on lazy mornings, these time-sucking items will eat out of your already limited schedule to get ready.
4. Remember what you already wore this week.
It’s tempting to throw on something you already have lying on the dresser, but, don’t give into it. You will look like you grabbed something out of the hamper (and may smell like it to)! It’s just not worth it.
5. Don’t forget about your hair and makeup.
Even if your outfit is on point, an unkempt hairdo or bad eyeliner can ruin everything. Put your hair into a neat ponytail or bun for a fast fix. As for makeup, stick to eyeliner or mascara, a soft natural lip color and some light color shadow. You can always finish things up once you get to work but these few details will let you look polished in under 5 minutes.
Now that you know what to do when the alarm clock fails, here’s something to keep you looking fresh every morning.
Plan a few go-to outfits ahead of time.
If you have a few looks set aside the week or night before, you never have to worry about what to wear during the craziest mornings. Also, because you’ll have more time, you can spend it on doing your hair or makeup in whatever way you please.
To take things a step further, you can even set out the foundation, mascara and eye shadow color you want to use the night before.
Hope this helps! Please share this if you liked it and have a wonderful Thursday!
