Can’t find that chic Chanel flap bag or bold Prada crossbody within your budget? No problem. There’s always the option to go vintage.
Condition ranges anywhere from “slightly used” to a “well loved” everyday bag. Either way can still be pricy, depending on what you’re looking for, but you can shop around for the right one. Here’s a start on the best places to look:
Focus on Specialized Vintage Retailers
The Real Real is a trusted consignment shop known for selling authenticated, luxury pieces. This means you shouldn’t have to worry about getting ripped off! And, if you want to sell it to buy something else later on, you will already have a familiar place to turn to.
Or, there’s a more familiar spot – Rent the Runway! Along with their semi-annual sales of previously-rented items, Rent the Runway has sample sales for you to visit. (Remember, there are newer Oscar de la Renta jewelry as well as Halston dresses and much more available for rent daily. So, you may see some good finds come sale time.)
Otherwise, look into Vintage and Vintage Marketplace Sections
Didn’t find what you want in the other sites? Your favorite clothing stores may have just what you need; ASOS and Farfetch both have vintage or vintage marketplace sections on their sites. You can even pick up a Chanel bag from Nasty Gal or a Louis Vuitton lock from Etsy. You just have to be willing to search through the pages of content. But….
Before you Buy Anything
I would highly suggest setting a budget for yourself and not relying on other companies to do the work for you. Did you know Chanel earrings are not hypoallergenic? Would you be able to tell the difference between a fake Louis Vuitton bag and a real one? It’s not just about mixed up emblems. Do some research before you buy anything.
The Real Real has a whole slew of videos about “How to Authenticate” different brands on YouTube, but I would suggest looking up even more tips from reputable sources. You can never learn too much – especially when you’re making such a big investment.
